Gérard Deltell Tackles Administrative Duplication

Ottawa, ON – Gérard Deltell, Conservative Member of Parliament for Louis-Saint-Laurent and Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change, tabled a Bill in the House of Commons today to amend the Impact Assessment Act (Provincial Agreements).

The aim is to require a single environmental impact assessment for each project, in order to avoid unnecessary duplication. It proposes the creation of a mechanism of agreements between the federal and provincial governments to reduce duplication of federal and provincial environmental assessments.

The bill is part of the Conservative’s common sense plan to cut red tape so businesses can get green projects off the ground, quickly.

“Our common-sense plan uses technology, not taxes. It incentivizes companies to reduce emissions by green-lighting green projects such as dams and wind turbines. It does this by reducing duplicative studies and federal hurdles of all kinds, and by producing green minerals here, instead of importing them from China,” said Deltell.

“With this bill, we want to speed up the assessment process and put an end to the obstacles that delay the creation of innovative projects. We attach great importance to collaboration between governments to move forward and avoid duplication and interjurisdictional squabbles.”
