Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day:

“Every morning, in households across our country, thousands of men and women put on their uniform and kiss their loved ones goodbye, knowing they may not make it home in the evening.

“This is a sacrifice most of us will never know. Yet, every day, the heroes in our police forces step up — working in difficult environments and dangerous situations — all to keep the rest of us safe.

“Today, at the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ 46th Annual Memorial Service in our nation’s capital, Canadians will remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As we bow our heads in solemn remembrance, our thoughts remain with their families and colleagues as they mourn this incomprehensible loss.

“Over the last year, we have lost 12 uniformed Canadians. These heroes lived a life of service — and each one of them deserved to make it home safely. We must never take their sacrifice for granted.

“We will continue to serve you, just as you have served us. We will continue working to bring home safe streets with laws that keep repeat violent offenders behind bars. We will keep fighting to ensure these needless tragedies never happen again. On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I’d like to salute every police and peace officer across our country.”
